Home to many major fashion labels, the Garment District has been one of the capitols for the the clothing industry since the early 20th century. It is largely a business district, and residences are very expensive. Despite outsourcing overseas hurting the economy of the area, the exit of many businesses has given opportunities to smaller boutiques, students, and artists.
