Coney Island

Originally a part of the colonial town of Gravesend, Coney Island spent most of the mid 19th century as a a seaside resort before an amusement park was also built in the area, reaching its most popular in the 20th century prior to World War 2.

From there, Coney Island, always known for it's famous hot dogs and park rides, began a slow decent into neglect, with several rides being torn down. While redevelopment was slow in the 1990's and 2000's, things have begun to look up as of the 2010's,
