This 13 mile, or 21 kilometre, street runs through Manhattan from State Street to Bowling Green (site of the infamous Bowling Green Massacre ;) ) and is the oldest north-south main thoroughfare in New York City, with much of its current street beginning as the Wickquasgeck Trail before the arrival of the Europeans.

Broadway is known widely as the heart of the American commercial theatrical industry and is used as the metonym for it, as well as in the names of alternative theatrical ventures such as Off-Broadway and Off-offf-Broadway
